چکیده

Direct insertion probe pyrolysis mass spectrometry (DIP-MS) analyses of poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA), poly(vinyl acetate) (PVAc) and binary PMMA/PVAc guests, coalesced from their inclusion compounds (ICs) formed with host g-cyclodextrin (g-CD) through removal of the g-CD host, have been performed. A slight increase in the thermal stabilities of the coalesced polymers were recorded both by TGA and DIP-MS compared to the corresponding as-received polymers. The DIP-MS observations pointed out that the thermal stability and degradation products of these polymers are affected once they are included inside the IC channels created by the stacked host g-CDs. DIP-MS observations suggested that the degradation mechanisms for PMMA and PVAc chains in their coalesced blend were significantly altered from those observed in their as-received and solution blended samples. This was attributed to the presence of specific molecular interactions between the intimately mixed PMMA and PVAc chains in their coalesced blend. 2005 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

An Intimate Polycarbonate/Poly(methyl methacrylate)/ Poly(vinyl acetate) Ternary Blend via Coalescence from Their Common Inclusion Compound with -Cyclodextrin

In this study, we successfully report an intimate ternary blend system of polycarbonate (PC)/poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA)/poly(vinyl acetate) (PVAc) obtained by the simultaneous coalescence of the three guest polymers from their common -cyclodextrin ( -CD) inclusion compound (IC). The thermal transitions and the homogeneity of the coalesced ternary blend were studied by differential scannin...

Reorganization and improvement of bulk polymers by processing with their cyclodextrin inclusion compounds

The formation of polymer-cyclodextrin inclusion compounds of polycarbonate (PC), poly(methylmethacrylate) (PMMA) and poly(vinylacetate) (PVAc) guests with host g-cyclodextrin (g-CD) have been successfully achieved. Coalesced bulk polymer samples were obtained by removal of g-CD from their inclusion compounds (ICs). The chemical and crystalline structures of ICs and coalesced PC, PMMA and PVAc w...

Electrospinning of functional poly(methyl methacrylate) nanofibers containing cyclodextrin-menthol inclusion complexes.

Electrospinning of nanofibers with cyclodextrin inclusion complexes (CD-ICs) is particularly attractive since distinct properties can be obtained by combining the nanofibers with specific functions of the CD-ICs. Here we report on the electrospinning of poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) nanofibers containing cyclodextrin-menthol inclusion complexes (CD-menthol-ICs). These CD-menthol-IC functiona...

Graft Polymerization of Vinyl Acetate onto Starch. Saponification to Starch-g-Poly(vinyl Alcohol)

Graft polymerizations of vinyl acetate onto granular corn starch were initiated by cobalt-60 irradiation of starch-monomer-water mixtures. and ungrafted poly(vinyl acetate) was separated from the graft copolymer by benzene extraction. Conversions of monomer to polymer were quantitative at a radiation dose of 1.0 IvIrad. However, over half of the polymer was present as ungrafted poly(vinyl aceta...

Controlled Radical Polymerization of methyl methacrylate and styrene mediated by a cobalt(II)-based initiatior system

The role of cobalt(II) complexes containing 2-formylpyrrolyl chelating ligands and phosphine ligands combined with a bromo-alkyl ester, an alkyl bromide or an azo compound in the formation of suitable initiator systems for vinyl monomer controlled radical polymerization was studied. The formation of syndiotactic-rich (Pr>0.7) poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) and atactic (Pr=0.49) poly(styrene) ...
